NMW increases confirmed in budget and employer is vicariously liable for assault by MD

2018 Budget confirms NMW increases

The Chancellor’s October budget outlined the new National Minimum Wage rates to take effect from April 2019. There was also the promise of a reduction in business rates and a contribution of £895m to help smaller organisations with funding for apprenticeship training.

Case Law

In Bellman v Northampton Recruitment Ltd, the Court of Appeal decided that an employer was vicariously liable for an assault carried out by its Managing Director, which took place at an impromptu drinking session following the office Christmas party.
